Ensuring Strong and Stable Families and Communities in Northern Virginia
In 1970, Cornerstones was established by area religious organizations as a vehicle for people of faith and the community at large to improve the well-being of the area’s low to moderate-income individuals and families.
In the five decades since, Cornerstones has grown into a recognized leader known for its proven expertise and perseverance to connect vulnerable people with comprehensive resources that ensure stability, empowerment, and hope for the future.
We provide life-changing opportunities for more than 16,000 local families and individuals, with upwards of 5,000 children annually, grounded in the principles of compassion, equity, and inclusion.
Through our advocacy work, we create communities where all our neighbors can thrive. We support policies that:
- Build and Preserve Affordable Housing
- Invest in Connected and Resilient Children, Youth, and Families
- Provide Opportunities for Workers to Earn a Living Wage
- Advance Racial and Social Equity
A Vanguard Community Event, Spring 2021
Now in our 50th year of service to Northern Virginia, Cornerstones is hosting a milestone 50th Anniversary Celebration and Forum Spring 2021. Building off our successful “Best of Reston” gala, held annually with the Greater Reston Chamber of Commerce, we will honor the many diverse partnerships and people who have shaped Cornerstones’ work. The landmark event will also spotlight our community’s future as a thriving, equitable, and compassionate place to life and work.
