The Cornerstones FREE from Hunger Center
The Cornerstones FREE from Hunger Center, known as the Food Hub, is pioneering a powerful solution to the intertwined problems of food waste and hunger. Since opening its 14,000-square-foot facility in November 2023, The Food Hub has distributed over 480,000 pounds of rescued food – equivalent to more than 400,000 meals – through local pantries and feeding programs across the Dulles Corridor. By transforming surplus food into vital nourishment, we’re helping families in need while significantly reducing food waste in our community.
Our Food Hub partners with grocery retailers, local farmers, and regional businesses to rescue large volumes of perishable and non-perishable food that might otherwise be discarded. Tackling a major barrier in hunger relief, Cornerstones also provides essential cold storage capacity that many organizations lack, safely preserving fresh produce, meat, and dairy. This enables rapid redistribution of nutritious food to our network of partners, ensuring healthy meals reach families quickly, not landfills.
