One person can make a difference.
At Cornerstones, you’re more than one person trying to make a difference. When you give your time to Cornerstones, you join a dedicated family of more than 3,800 volunteers involved in our programs with proven success rates. Our established network means your gift of time and talents will reach individuals and families in need in our community.
With more and more people experiencing economic and social stress, our volunteers make it possible to meet the needs of families and individuals every step of the way. From serving food at our shelter to tutoring students and helping with tax returns, our dedicated volunteers are the heart of our organization.
Volunteers can effect dramatic changes for the more than 20,000 individuals who receive support services through Cornerstones, such as enabling someone to learn the language of their adopted country, find a job through employment coaching, or pay off years of debt as the result of a financial mentor’s efforts. Activities such as catering a meal allows a Cornerstones’ client to better take on the challenges they’re facing. Providing childcare helps a single parent benefit from a class about budgeting. Painting a fence gives a formerly homeless family pride in the home into which they are transitioning. Volunteers also serve as some of the “first responders” when it comes to client needs; a mentor or tutor is often the first to recognize a challenge, and many times have provided individualized solutions.
Perhaps the deepest impact of the Volunteer Program at Cornerstones is in the lives of the more than 3,800 volunteers themselves. From the first graders who join their parents in delivering gifts or preparing bagged meals to the 94-year-old woman who organizes the shelter’s donations each Friday, volunteers of all ages know that they have made a positive impact and are energized to continue serving as a result.
